Happy Days

“Oh you are going to talk to me today, this is going to be a happy day!”

Ligra is pleased to bring to Bangalore an acclaimed production of Happy Days by the Nobel Laureate playwright Samuel Beckett.   This Rogue Theater production has played to audiences in Arizona and California in the US, and has toured to Ecuador in South America.

In this hallmark play by one of the twentieth century’s greatest playwrights, Happy Days exposes the eternal and sometimes hopeless optimism that most of us learn to summon in the face of our most vexing burdens.

Samuel Beckett won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1969.  He is widely credited as having altered the course of theater with his bleak and minimalist settings infused with hope and optimism.

The play demands attention and some literary interest, and links to themes that are best understood against the backdrop of life’s experience, and is therefore not well-suited for children.   Reading some background on the play may help you appreciate the show even more.

The play features Patty Gallagher in the title role - and she has played this role to great acclaim

"Gallagher glows with Beckettian misplaced optimism and makes his dark humor sing... (she) makes the amphitheater rock with laughter."
-Robert Hurwitt, San Francisco Chronicle

"Gallagher... gave a brilliantly bravura performance... She brings an impressive blend of dramatic intelligence and physical technique to the role...
- Georgia Rowe, The Examiner

Tickets: Rs.200
